Tim Gartrell

Tim Gartrell is the CEO of Auspoll, an Australian social and market research company and is a former National Secretary and National Campaign Director for the Australian Labor Party (from 2003-2008).
Tim rose to national prominence as the Campaign Director who steered the Labor Party to victory in the historic 2007 federal election, which changed the national government and installed Kevin Rudd as Prime Minister. In the decade prior, Tim managed research into public opinion and voter attitudes in federal and state elections, the last five years as the ALP’s National Campaign Director and National Secretary. He has also been an adviser and staffer in the Keating Labor Government (from 1993 – 1996).
Responding to the news of Tim’s departure from the ALP to join Auspoll in 2008, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said: “His ability, hard work, judgment and campaign leadership skills are first-class.”
Tim draws on his political experience to commentate on public affairs and federal politics. He is a regular guest on Sky News’ Agenda and ABC TV’s Lateline and writes a monthly column on politics and public opinion for The Sunday Telegraph. In 2009 he was awarded the National Press Club of Australia’s “Golden Gong” Award for Public Affairs.
He holds a Master of Arts (Communications Studies) and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.
