Welcome

This website is part of a national conversation about our country’s future.

We’re coming up on a rendezvous with destiny—in 2017, we’ll celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday.

What will we be celebrating that year? What kind of Canada do we want in 2017? And what do we have to do, today and tomorrow, to get there?

We need the next generation of bold ideas, to take our country forward.

In March, we’ll bring together some of Canada’s brightest minds, in Montréal, for Canada at 150: Rising to the Challenge. But Canada’s future is too big, too important, to leave anyone out of the conversation. That’s why we’ve created this website—to open up Canada at 150 to the whole country.

We need an open, transparent, and inclusive debate about Canada’s future. That discussion starts here. It starts with you.

Thanks for being part of it.

Yours,

Michael Ignatieff

This is an awesome idea. Thanks Michael!

This is exactly the kind of thing the Liberal Party needs to be known for – thinking big picture and capturing imaginations.

  3. Xiren says:

A stronger Canada calls for more inclusiveness – with more engaged youth and more engaged Northern territories. On that note, 2013 will no doubt mark a very exciting year for Canada, so I can hardly wait to see what 2017 will evolve into. Nonetheless, it will be a metamorphosis that I shall look forward to, with much impatience.

Canada, of all countries, is not short of talent, but it is short of talent who love and get excited about their jobs. Strategically matching talent to their area of expertise is crucial to sculpting a more dynamic and productive nation.

How many foreign Ph.D’s are forced to take up minimum-wage labour jobs? If youth unemployment is a ’scandal’ as some had called it, then this is simply disgraceful! Creating more jobs is of paramount importance, but even more importantly, Canadian talent needs to be placed in placements and positions where they can best utilize their skills, because only when our citizens can build a brighter future for themselves, will the future of Canada become infinitely brighter.

Canada is rich in talent, but as it stands, I’m not convinced that we are exploiting it to our best advantage.
